Draft for MEF 9/5/15, joined Plymouth Battalion 31/5/15-22/6/16 Discharged Dead

Died of wounds in 6th London Field Ambulance (Gun Shot Wounds left leg & left arm, fractured severe 21/6/16)

Entitled to 1914-15 Star, Victory & British War Medals (issued to his Mother)

"WOMBWELL YOUTH KILLED, NEVER HAD A HOME LEAVE".

Cpl. J.W. Page RMLI age 25, formerly of Station Rd. Wombwell, died 22nd June of wounds received the previous day in France.

His parents live at 7, Whinney Hill, Rotherham. His father Mr Francis. Page was discharged from the Army last March after serving 179 days in the Labour Bn. of the Royal Engineers. Nineteen weeks of his service was in France.Cpl. Page enlisted in Jan. 1915 & after 10 weeks training was drafted to the Dardanelles Subsequently he had three months rest in Egypt & was then transferred to France, where he met his death as stated.

A distressing feature of this casualty is that the unhappy youth had never had a home leave after enlistment.
