Benjamin Godlonton Hill worked in the accountant’s department in the London head office of the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation Ltd. He was working as an insurance clerk by the 1911 census and served as a Gunner in the Honourable Artillery Company, later receiving his commission and being transferred as 2nd Lieutenant to the Royal Field Artillery 150th Brigade. He was awarded the Military Cross and died of wounds received from a shell attack on Messines. He was 26.
