William Seth Cumber was born in 1878 in Guildford Surrey. He was the only son of William and Caroline and had 2 sisters, Esther and Priscilla.

He was married to Alice Maria Kemp and they had 3 children, Marigold born 1905, Esther 1906 and William Fredrick Seth born 1911. They lived in Croydon.

William Seth Cumber was a bricklayer by trade working for The London Brighton And South Coast Railway Co. His name is on a huge commemorative plaque in Victoria Railway Station. It honours 35,635 members of staff who served during the 1914-18 War many many of whom did not return.

I spotted William's name on this plaque and was amazed to see his surname. I am a Cumber by marriage and my husband's family came from London. So far I can't find a connection between our families but I am sure that somewhere in the past we were related.

It was an honour to have a brief glimpse into William Seth Cumber's life.

He is not forgotten.
