Private JF Tonge is my Maternal Grandmothers great uncle! He was the eldest out of 5 children. He signed up too young and was sent to the training regiment, after he reach of age he joined The Cheshire Regiment. He was wounded just outside of Lille and suc***b to his injuries in hospital! He is buried in Linsulles, which I have has if yet visited, but there is a bench at The National Memorial Arboretum which is dedicated to The Cheshire Regiment. I have no idea where his medals are, the death penny is still within the family. I believe his medals may have been sold, as the next eldest son ( My grandmas father) wanted to go to university but now with Uncle Jimmy gone, he had to be the bread winner.
