During the battle of Mons, less than 3 weeks of Britain joining the War, you and one other ( Private Godley, who survived) volunteered to defend Nimy Bridge with 2 machine guns. What you did allowed the rest of your unit to retreat to defend the River Marne. You died protecting your men, your Country. 100 years on and your story is being told. You received the Victoria Cross for your bravery, so sad you never lived to receive this in person. There is a plaque now placed at Nimy Bridge to remember what you and Private Godley did for us that day. We are forever in your debt. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning we will remember you
