Richard was my great uncle. He was born in Burford, Oxfordshire in 1894 and died aged 23. He was the 3rd child (of 13) of my great-grandparents Samuel Bishop (1870-1953) and Emily (nee Wright) (1872-1955). He was never married. He served with the Oxon & Bucks Light Infantry 6th Batallion, and died on 20th September on the first day of the battle of Menin Road Ridge. He has no known grave but is remembered at Tyne Cot military cemetery.
