Before the war William was a footman at a large estate near Canterbury.. His family were in service at Old Reasons Farm near Wheatampstead. His Battalion took part in the battle of Arras. We do not know the circumstances of his death but there was a action on the 27th May 1917 to capture a prisoner and get details of the line of shell holes held by the enemy. Men died in this action which was the date of his death.
