Private Fred Eggleton was a Marine Private aboard HMS Perth, an armed merchant steamer, part of the Red Sea Patrol. While at Gizan on the 20th Jan 1917 he was shot by accidental discharge of a pistol, and died a few hours later. He was buried at sea 3 miles West by North of Gizan the following day.
