The only son of Jermyn Edward and Emily Brand, of 34 High Street, Colchester, Eric joined CRGS in December 1907, and left in March 1915.
He enlisted as a Private in the Rifle Brigade of the 17th London Regiment in May 1915, was sent to France in August of the same year, before being invalided home in February 1916.
In July 1916, he returned to France, before be sent to Salonika in December that year. In April 1917, he was sent home for training as an officer, receiving his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant, in the same regiment, in November 1917.
He was attached to the 1st Battalion, The Essex Regiment, stationed at Felixstowe, from whence he was sent to Egypt, before returning to France once more. He died leading his men on 23rd August 1918.
