Walter, my dad's eldest brother age 19 enlisted in September 1914 six months after the death of his father, leaving behind his mother and ten siblings, the youngest being a few months old. He served in Egypt and was awarded the Victory Medal and the Britsh Star.  In 1916 he was shot in the hand and was shipped to Aberdeen Military Convalescent Hospital to recover.  He was then sent to France.  He was killed in action there on 9/4/1917. Rest in peace Walter, taken too soon breaking your mother's heart.
