Trooper Lawrence Victor PRINCE (1891-1915).

NZEF Service # 7/776; Trooper, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, 10th (Nelson) Company, 2nd Reinforcements, New Zealand Expeditionary Forces (NZEF).

Born 19 June 1891- at Kaikoura, Marlborough Region, East Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

Lawrence Prince was the 4th son of Charles & Bertha Angelina (nee Elvidge) Prince - of Kaikoura.

Prior to enlistment for war service Lawrence Prince was a Bootmaker - at Kaikoura. Lawrence's father - Charles - was also a Bootmaker - at Kaikoura.

Lawrence Prince enlisted for war service - on 31 October 1914 - at Trentham Military Training Camp, Wellington Region, North Island, New Zealand. He was 23 years of age.

At enlistment Lawrence Prince was posted as a Trooper with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, 2nd Reinforcements, NZEF.

On 14 December 1914 Trooper Prince left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 2nd Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZ T13 "Verdala" - from Port of Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.

Trooper Prince disembarked from his transport ship from New Zealand - on 3 February 1915 - at Alexandria, Egypt.

In early August 1915 Trooper Prince left Egypt, with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles - to serve as Infantry - with the ANZAC (Australian & New Zealand Army Corps) forces at Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey.

On 16 August 1915 Trooper Prince joined his unit - the 10th (Nelson) Squadron, of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, at Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey.

Two weeks, after arriving at Gallipoli, Trooper Prince was wounded in action. He was medically evacuated from ANZAC Cove - by sea -  aboard Hospital Ship 'Devanha' for hospital treatment at Alexandria, Egypt.

On 29 August 1915 Trooper Lawrence V. Prince died at sea - aboard HS 'Devanha' - from wounds received in action at Gallipoli.

Trooper Lawrence V. Prince is commemorated on the Lone Pine (New Zealand) Memorial to the Missing, Lone Pine Cemetery, Gallipoli, ANZAC, Turkey (Panel 72).

Trooper Lawrence V. Prince is also remembered at his hometown in New Zealand - on the Kaikoura District War Memorial (1914-1918) - at Kaikoura, Marlborough Region, East Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

Trooper Lawrence V. Prince's name also appears on the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade 'Roll of Honour'.
