Ernest, aged 20, died of his wounds at Gueudecourt on the 16th October 1916 during the Battle of the Somme. His younger brother Edward, aged 18, had been killed at Ypres exactly 6 months to the day earlier. Sadly an even younger brother, Robert was to die in the Submarine M1 several years later in 1925 when it was sunk in a collision and went down with all hands. The destraught parents had lost all their sons and left with an only daughter.
