He died aged 23 on 15th September 1916
Frank was born in *****tone in 1893 and baptised at St John the Baptist Church on 17th May 1893. In the 1901 census Frank Fearnley and his family were living at the White Bear in *****tone Market Place where his father Alfred was the innkeeper. His mother Mary Elizabeth had been born in Thurgoland, and he was one of eight children. 10 years later, they lived at 2 Castle Street, Green Road, *****tone. Before joining the regular army, Frank was a “Steelworker, Tyre Forging Dept.”
Some of Frank’s “burnt records” have survived, and show that he enlisted at *****tone in the Sheffield City Battalion (The Sheffield Pals) on 9th September 1914. He was 21years and 5mths old, and a steelworker. Frank was 5ft 8½ ins tall, weighed 10st 6lbs, chest size 35ins, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair, religion Church of England.
