Frederick Herbert was the eldest son of Samuel and Rosa Smith, although he was born in Lincolnshire he was from an old Higham family. He worked as a gardner at Lindley Lodge Nuneaton. He had two younger brothers Alfred William who was my maternal grandfather and Joseph who was also killed in the first World War. How tragic.
