Our Great Uncle Norman who died from wounds received in France on 12th May 1916 aged 20yrs. He was our Grandad's younger brother. He is buried in Mericourt l'abbe cemetery near Albert, France. Norman was a miner and worked at St Hilda's colliery South Shields. He joined up when he was 19yrs old and after some initial training he wa sent to France. We have letters sent from him from the trenches saying that he hoped he would be home for his 21st. Sadly this was not to be. Such a tragedy. We never met you but you were part of our family.
