I came on the website wanting to commemorate someone who had no one doing so. I realised I knew nothing about my own family in the war, so I entered my surname and the area my Dad's family is from. We have lots of "William" and "Henry" in our family, so I chose a "William Henry Welch" - the name of his mother rang a bell .... asked my Dad later and discovered that this William Henry was my great-great Uncle, and that my Dad has his medals and some other things from the war. William Henry Welch was just 26 when he died - more than a decade younger than I am now. I'm hoping to find out more about him - and whether others of his siblings or wider family served in the war, and who survived.
