Ralph Woodhall enlisted in the 5th Battalion of the Manchester Regiment in September 1914, with 24 other Old Boys of Wigan Grammar School. They sailed to Egypt on 10th September, and trained for some months in Alexandria. On 3rd May, 1915 they sailed to the Dardanelles, landing at Cape Helles on 6th May. He was killed on 3rd June, 1915, and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
