Charlie joined the DLI and went to war in a foreign country, one of the sisters he left behind safe at home was, Elizabeth Carson who married my grandfather John Robertson Stobbs. They had three children, John, George and Winifred, and so the family grew. Charlie was killed in Belgium in 1918 and was only 22. His body was never recovered but his name is listed on a memorial amongst many of his colleagues and friends, all who paid the ultimate price. I have only recently got to know my great uncle Charlie, mostly through the research done by my sister, Carol and my daughter, Rachel had the honour of visting Charlie's memorial at the PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL in Belgium with her Belgium boyfriend. From all your family we can only say thank you for your sacrifice and bravery. If it was not for you and thousands others we would not be here. God Bless.
