George Edwin Longley was the youngest son of Edwin Longley and Edith Annie Mann, who lived in High Melton, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire. George's eldest sister, May Longley, was my grandmother. George Edwin was therefore my great uncle. George Edwin Longley (Service No: A/202324) was a Rifleman in 19th Battalion of The King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was killed by sniper fire on the 23rd of October, 1918 less than a month before the end of The Great War. He is buried in the Montay-Neuvilly Road Cemetery, one kilometre north of the village of Montay on the eastern side of the road to Solesmes. His Grave Reference is I.B.13 Susan Allison
