Owen Lewish travelled to Gallipoli on the HMS Southampton. John Owen, his eldest daughter Mary's future husband, was a sailor on the Southampton at that time. Owen was shot and wounded then he was transferred to a military hospital in Alexandria, Egypt where he died of enteric fever. Aged 38 at the outbreak of war he may not have been called to serve but he volunteered. We, his family, are proud to remember his sacrifice. Val Billings, great granddaughter.
