John Scott Lauder was my great grandfather who lived in North Shields, Northumberland. He was employed as a miner and like many men joined up to do his bit with all his pals. He was in the Territorials and ended up in the Northumberland fusiliers 23rd Tyneside regiment who were sent to France. He died on 1st July 1916 and has no known grave. He was 27 years of age. He is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial. His son also John. Scott Lauder was my grandad and my father is Ernest Edward Lauder. I can't imagine the suffering he went through and the pain of his loss on his young wife and family but I know I will be forever proud of him and the sacrifice he made.
