Robert George Albert Doel was born on the 10th March 1897 in Cheam, the son of William (b.1859) a General Labourer and Rosina (b.1859) He was Baptised on the 18th April in Cheam.

His siblings were, Walter b.1881, Beatrice b.1889, James b.1891, Edwin b.1895, Edith b.1899 and Frederick b.1904.

The 1911 Census confirmed the family lived at 12 Drayton Villas, Longfellow Rd, Worcester Park.
