My great-uncle Sandy died of cholera while serving on the Northwest Frontier in India. He never married, but his three brothers, two of whom also served in India, did. Nine great-nephews and nieces still remember Uncle Sandy as the man who bagged 'Bara Singh', a Himalayan Red Deer stag whose mounted head adorns my brother's hall. I have a photo of Uncle Sandy in my own hall, alongside one of my son, also Alexander Marjoribanks, a major in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
