Private Edward McCONNON (1882-1917).

Service # 51661; Private, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 13th Company, 27th Reinforcements, New Zealand Expeditionary Forces (NZEF).

Born 4 August 1882 - at Kumara, Westland, West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

Edward was the son of David & Hannah McConnon - of Greymouth, West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand.

Prior to enlistment for war service Edward McConnon was a Labourer - at Tadmor, Nelson Region, South Island, New Zealand.

Edward McConnon enlisted for war service - on 5 March 1917 - at Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. He was 34 years of age.

At enlistment Edward McConnon was posted as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 27th Reinforcements, NZEF.

On 13 June 1917 Private McConnon left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 27th Reinforcements, NZEF - aboard HMNZ T87 "Tahiti" - from Port of Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.

Private McConnon disembarked, from his transport ship from New Zealand - on 16 August 1917 - at Devonport, England.

On 26 October 1917 Private McConnon left England for active war service - at France.

Private McConnon joined his Battalion - the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion - in the field,  at France or Belgium - on 9 December 1917.

On Christmas Day 25 December 1917 - Private Edward McConnon was killed in action in the field - at Ypres, Belgium. He was 35 years of age.

Private Edward McConnon is commemorated at the Buttes (New Zealand) New British Cemetery Memorial, Polygon Wood, Zonnebeke, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.

Private Edward McConnon is also remembered at his hometown in New Zealand - on the Mapua District War Memorial (1914-1918) - at Mapua, Nelson Region, South Island, New Zealand.
