Charles was the son of Samuel & Elizabeth Hopkinson - of Morecombe, England.

Charles was the husband of Mrs Annie Hopkinson - of Tasman District, Nelson Region, South Island, New Zealand.

Prior to enlistment for war service Charles Hopkinson was a Telegraphist - with the Post & Telegraph Office - at Aporo, Tasman District.

Charles Hopkinson enlisted for war service - on 14 December 1915 - at Nelson, South Island, New Zealand.

At enlistment Charles Hopkinson was posted as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, NZEF.

On 1 May 1916 Private Hopkinson left New Zealand for overseas war service - and he disembarked at Port Alexandria, Egypt - on 26 July 1916.

On 30 October 1916 Private Hopkinson left Egypt for active war service - at France.

Private Hopkinson joined his Battalion - the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion - on 22 November 1916  - in the field - at France.

On 31 January 1918 Private Hopkinson was admitted, sick, to the New Zealand Field Ambulance. He was medically evacuated to England - on 10 February 1918 - and admitted to the No 2 (New Zealand) General Hospital - at Walton on Thames, England.

Private Hopkinson was classified as "Physically unfit for further war service" - on 3 April 1918 - at England.

On 6 April 1918 Private Hopkinson left England for New Zealand - aboard the Hospital Ship "Marama" - from Avonmouth, England.

Private Charles T. Hopkinson died of sickness - on 3 March 1921 - at Nelson, South Island, New Zealand. He was 44 years of age.

Private Charles Hopkinson is buried at Wakapuaka Cemetery, Nelson City, South Island, New Zealand. (Grave Ref: Block 1; Plot 181).
