Arthur William Golden was born in 1892 in Stoke Dameral, Devonport, Devon, the son of William (b.1861) a Carpenter and Hannah (b.1865)

Arthur’s siblings were, Charles b.1889, Lydia b.1890, Herbert Victor b.1895, Hilda b.1897, Bertha b.1899, Henry b.1901 and Phoebe b.1903. The family lived at 9 Drayton Villas, Longfellow Rd, Worcester Park.

The 1911 Census confirmed that Arthur was a Hairdresser at Eagle & Child, High Rd, Shenfield, Essex.

Records confirm that Arthur was awarded the DCM (Distinguished Conduct Medal) for gallantry and the MM (Military Medal) for bravery in battle.
