Ronald Malcolm Clerk was given a book 'On Service, at Home and Abroad' by Major J. Percy Groves, for Christmas in 1896 by his Mother Dora Somervail Clerk, who inscribed the gift.

The book came to light in Sussex, near Eastbourne where Ronald grew up.  It transpires he was an assistant master at Sutherland House school, Windlesham, which subsequently became Woodcote House School, where my Godson was also a pupil.
