Lance Corporal Eric LENNOX (1892-1918).

Service # 21701: Lance Corporal, Canterbury Infantry Regiment (C Company), 2nd Battalion, 16th Reinforcements, New Zealand Expeditionary Forces (NZEF).

Born 10 February 1892 at Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.

Son of John & Sarah Lennox of Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.

Prior to enistment for war service Eric Lennox was a Labourer at Riwaka, Tasman District, South Island, New Zealand.

Eric Lennox enlisted for war service - on 29 April 1916 - at Nelson, South Island, New Zealand.

At enlistment Eric Lennox was posted as a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 16th Reinforcements, NZEF.

On 21 August 1916 Private Lennox left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the 16th Reinforcements NZEF - aboard HMNZT 62 "Mokoia" - from Port Chalmers, Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand.

Private Lennox disembarked, from his transport ship, at Devonport, England - on 24 October 1916.

On 15 November 1916 Private Lennox left England - for overseas war service - at France.

On 2 December 1916 Private Lennox joined his Battalion - the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 12th (Nelson) Company - in the field, at Rouen, France.

On 7 June 1917 Private Lennox was wounded in action - in the field - at Messines, Belgium. He was medically evacuated to England - and admitted to the No 2 (New Zealand) Military Hospital - at Brockenhurst, Hampshire, England.

On 14 November 1917 Private Lennox, after being discharged from the No 2 (New Zealand) Military Hospital, at Brockenhurst - left England for war service at France.

On 20 December 1917 Private Lennox re-joined his unit -  the 12th (Nelson) Company - in the field, at France.

On 5 February 1918 Private Lennox was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

On 23 April 1918 Lance Corporal Eric Lennox was killed in action - in the field - at the Somme, France. He was 26 years of age.

Lance Corporal Eric Lennox is buried at Colincamps Communal Cemetery, Somme, France.

Lance Corporal Eric Lennox is also remembered at his hometown in New Zealand - on the Riwaka District War Memorial (1914-1918) - at Riwaka, Tasman District, South Island, New Zealand.
