Mervyn Dane Collings worked for the New Zealand Insurance Company in Townsville Australia. He enlisted on 16 November 1914 and became a Private in the 15th Battalion of the Australian Infantry Force. He was among the first to land on Gallipoli. He was shot through the head by a Turkish sniper while digging an ammunition trench and was killed instantaneously.  He was 24.
