Samuel Gurney Sheppard was a member of the Board of Directors of the London and Lancashire Life and General Assurance Association, appointed in 1908. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Hertfordshire Yeomanry. He had been awarded the Distinguished Service Order and the Queen's medal with 5 clasps in the South African campaigns. He died from wounds received in the Dardanelles on 21 August 1915. He was 50.
