I have a military family, one grandad served while raising his family, the other worked as a civilian on base with his son's. A cousin is in the army, an uncle in the navy. Dad was in the ATC, I was a sea cadet for a short time, my brother would be in the RAF were it not for childhood asthma. I do not have it in me to serve in the armed forces, but I am immensely proud of all those who do, be they family, friends, or strangers I have never met. This Daniel McDonald may not even be a relation of mine, but the fact that he shares his name with two members of my family made me sit up and think; would I be here if not for him? Would my dad have been born? Thank you private Daniel McDonald from the bottom of my heart.
