Sgt. Samuel Ashmore, 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, was killed in action at Bellewaarde on 16th June 1915. Commemorated on the Menin Gate, he was the 35 year-old son of Mrs. Mary Ann Ashmore, of 23 Hedderley Street, Union Road, Nottingham. He had served on the Western Front since landing in France on 13th August 1914.
