Harold Frederick Gilliatt worked for the Northern Assurance Company in Nottingham. He began working for the company in January 1907 and was employed as a fire order clerk by the outbreak of war. He enrolled in the City Battalion of Volunteers in September 1914 and later transferred to the 10th Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters where he served as a Private. He was reported missing in France, and later believed killed, aged 26.
