According to the Thos. W. Ward Limited 'War Record' booklet published in the early 1920's, "He enlisted from the Briton Ferry Works of Thos.W.Ward Limited, September 1914, in the Somersetshire Light Infantry. He served in France and was killed in action somewhere on the Somme, July 1st, 1916 and here our record of this brave soldier ends." He is commemorated on the Thos. W. Ward Limited War Memorial which is now to be found at the Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield.
