Geoffrey William Atkinson who worked in the London office of the General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation Ltd. He joined the company on 19 May 1914 in the accident department at the age of 17. He served as a Lieutenant in the Oxford & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry 2nd/1st Battalion was believed killed at the Battle of Fromelles, aged just 19. After his death his Colonel wrote to his father: "Dear Sir – What shall I say to you and how shall I say it? It is with great grief that I have to tell you that your dear son met with a soldier's death whilst leading his platoon in an attack made by this battalion on the enemy trenches yesterday. The last news I have of him is that he was wounded, and when binding up a wound of one of his men he was hit again and killed."
