George's family did not hear that he was missing until about Monday, July 24th.  His sister, Dorothy, was in London and  received a letter from her Mother in Cambridge on the morning of Tuesday 25th telling her.  The family never knew that he was killed until the end of the War.  The strain on them must have been terrible, and his father never recovered from it.  This is mentioned in "The Cambridge Rview" of Feb. 10   1928.
