Retford Times 29th October 1915
'Ordsall Soldier Killed News has been received that Corporal Clarence Holliday of the Sherwood Foresters, second son of F Holliday of 6a Church lane, Ordsall, died of wounds on 6th October whilst serving in the Dardanelles. The brave soldier, who was only 22, was formerly employed on the Great Northern Railway and enlisted very shortly after the outbreak of hostilities. He was wounded some time ago in France and after his recovery was sent to the Dardanelles. Much sympathy is felt with Mr Holliday in the loss of his son, who was highly respected in a wide circle of friends. Mr Holliday has been employed at the Northern Rubber Works for twenty six years.'
