Derbyshire Courier 1st September 1917 .Pinxton Soldier dies of Wounds.

Private William Cutts, Sherwood Foresters, of Pinxton who was mortally wounded near Ypres, died in hospital on 10th August. Private Cutts who was 27 years of age, was the youngest son of the late Mr James Cutts and Mrs Cutts, grocer and provision dealers, Town Street. The tragic death of Mr James Cutts after attending the Blackwell Rural District Tribunal, to whom he appealed for exemption for his son, is still fresh in the memory of the parishioners, who held Mr and Mrs Cutts and family in the highest esteem Private Cutts joined up in November last year and went out to France in February this year. The sad news was conveyed to Mrs Cutts in the following letter from 2nd Lieut Bewley - 'May I take this opportunity of expressing to you my deepest sympathy upon the loss of your son Private Cutts. He was a good soldier and always did his duty cheefully and was ever ready and willing to lend a hand to others. He will be greatly missed by all ranks , who feel they have lost a good comrade.'

Private B Cutts, who is also in France and was formerly a manager at Booth's drapery store, South Normanton, was given leave to visit his brother in hospital, but arrived too late to see the last of him. He was however conducted to the grave where his brother had been laid to rest.

The late Private Cutts was to have returned from the front in the early part of September to go into special training for a commission.
