I was given Frederick's Sunday School Prize by his sister, my grandmother - a copy of 'The Pilgrim's Progress' by John Bunyan which he was awarded in 1910 at The Royalty, Sunderland. Nanna had written inside: "To Colin as a keepsake in memory of your great uncle Fred who was killed in action on July 1st 1916 in battle of Somme, aged 21 years".

"As I walked through the wilderness of this world, I lighted on a certain place where was a Den, and I laid me down in that place to sleep: and as I slept, I dreamed a dream".
