Arthur Edward Hourd was born in Hose, Leicestershire on 12th February, 1893, to John Bonser Hourd and Mary Jane nee Morley.

He joined the 8th Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment and died at the Battle of the Somme on 25th September 1916, aged 23.  He was awarded the Campaign Medal and Silver War Badge for his services to the country.

Arthur was a close cousin of my son's Grandmother and I wish I could have talked to her about his bravery.
