Fernand was born in 1889 at Genappe, Belgium and could speak several European languages.  He obtained a bechelor of engineering at Louvan University before he came to Australia in 1911.  His occupation was Assistant Surveyor and he lived at Beauliew near Inverelle, New South Wales, Australi.  When Fernand enlisted in November 1914 after he had just married his wife Eva in Brisbane, Queensland.  He was killed in action at Gallilopli and has no known grave.  His name is commemorated at Lone Pine Memorial.
