Henry Charles Cottis was born in 1891 ,Eldest child of Ishmael and Clara Cottis of 39 Maple Road,Grays,Essex. .

He joined the 2nd Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment as a regular soldier in 1911 and for a time was stationed at Roberts Barracks ,Peshawar,India (Now Pakistan) . 

He was later at Multan,India and his regiment was shipped via Bombay on 17th January 1915 to Basra ,Mesopotania (Now Iraq) .The batallion was then attached to the 12th Indian Brigade in March of the same year.

Henry Cottis lost his life at the Battle of Nasiriyah on 24th July 1915.
