My husband's grandmother Louisa Francis(nee Clayton),never spoke of her brother who died in World War 1. In fact the first we knew of him was finding his name on the war memorial in Rushden, where he grew up. He had been in the boot and shoe trade and all that I know of his war service was that he was transferred from the Middlesex Regiment to the Labour Corps. He died on December 4th 1918 aged 33 from sickness. We visited Les Baraques cemetery near Calais to pay our respects and to shed a few tears.
