John Harney was my granddad's brother in law and my mother's uncle. He had one son with his wife Ellen (nee Nolan). He died near the end of the 1 WW on the Somme.  His son John became an orphan as a result as his mother had died in child birth. John Harney was 29 when he joined up which was a difficult decision being a widower with a young son. After his death, his son was brought up by his aunt and grandmother (my great aunt and great grandmother) in Tramore, Ireland and also by my granddad and grandma in London when he was older.
