Josephs Mother died aged 29, 4 day's after giving birth.

His Father died when Joseph was 10.

Joseph married Susan (Susie Mallarky) when he was a 21 year old Provisions Salesman in the Gorbals, Glasgow.

They had two Daughters, born 1914 & 1915.

Joseph was killed attacking Boritska Trench on 1-Nov-1916.

Extract from Worcestershire Regiment War Diary:- Never had the Battalion struggled through a worse morass. The ladden Soldiers sank up to their knees in the mud, hauling out each foot with the utmost difficulty and in many cases losing their boots and putties. Slowly the attacking line waded up the slight slope. As they reached the crest of the little rise, which hid the enemy from view, they were met with a storm of bullets.
