WILLIAM JAS KNIGHT was serving as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, The Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry when he was killed in action on the 1st May 1918. He was aged 30 and is buried in the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez in the Pas de Calais. 

He was the son, one of seven children of William and Rose Knight of Over Norton. He married Annie Clack in 1910 and  lived at 10 Guildhall Place, Chipping Norton with their young daughters Edna and Doris. He worked as a groom and coachman for Major Daly at Over Norton Park, along with Frank Murrell who also died in the war.

He joined the 2nd Battalion in September 1914 and arrived in France on 18th September 1915. They took part in all the major battles on the Western Front including the Somme, The Third Battle of Ypres and fighting against the German Spring Offensive in 1918. L/Cpl Knight was one of three killed by shelling as the Battalion moved into positions near Boisleaux-au-Mont.
