Edwin Burbidge was born in Chipping Norton in 1900, one of 9 children. He was serving as a Private with the 53rd (Young Soldier) Battalion of the Royal warwickshire Regiment, based at Larkhill garrison on Salisbury Plain. he died on 7th October 1918, from influenza and heart failure in Fargo Military Hospital in Amesbury, Wiltshire. He was 18 and had only been in the Army for 6 weeks. In 1919 he had a book of poetry called "Simple Verses" which showed compassion and sensitivity beyond his years.
