He was my Grandfather, a blacksmith from NE England, who emigrated to Calgary, Canada, shortly before First World War. H volunteered for the Canadian Army, was sent to France, where he received injuries to his upper arm, he was sent to England, and spent some time in Hospital, where he died in May 1918. I visit his grave on a regular basis. as do other family members, at a cemetery in Willington , Co Durham. I have recently , with great help from the Commonwealth Graves Commission, had a new headstone placed at the grave, as the other one was fading., as I did not want his memory to be lost for ever. His wife ,my grandmother , returned to England, with a baby, my mother, and another child , my uncle.
