William was born in 1865, on the 2nd of July, son of the Rev. Edward Henry Loring & Charlotte Loring. He was baptised on 6 August 1865 at Cobham, Surrey, England

He married Mary Theodosia Thackeray (known as Theo) on 25th April, 1905 at Bradfield, Berkshire, England. William and Theo had one son, John Henry Loring born in 1906.

He died at Gallipoli on the 24th October 1915 on board the Hospital Ship Devenha as a result of gas gangrene after a shot from a Turkish sniper shattered his thigh.
