David Mair was 39 years old when he died. In his youth he was a keen cyclist. He married Annie Maclean in 1911 and they made their home in Nairn, with their 2 sons, not far from his early years spent in Tain and Inverness. He was the foreman of the ironmonger's shop in Nairn. As a member of the Volunteer Reserve, when war was declared, he was quickly involved, joining The Cameron Highlanders. For the duration of the was he fought bravely and stoically. He suffered serious injury and shell shock.and was lost so close to the end.
